AS THE DOILY TURNS

"A soap opera for tatters"

The scene opens at the home of Ring and Chain in a small town of Tatterville. In previous
times Ring and Chain were harmonious and did everything together. They built mountains of
doilies and were pleased at their creations. In this episode Ring was getting pushy and
wanted to further their relationship.
Ring: "I am tired of doing the same old pattern over and over. Let's try something
different. Let's expand our horizons."
Chain: "But I like our steadfast relationship and to the direction it is going. Why mess
with something that is good." Chain, being on the straight and narrow, tries to hide his
feelings of loneliness as if he can not create a masterpiece with out ring.
Chain: "Here, have another thread" Chain hands Ring a thread to chew on for a bit.
Ring: "Don't try to smooth me over with that silk thread!" Ring pushes it away. In a
perturbed mood with a scowl on her face she turns to go make a single ring edging to help cool off.
Chain senses her anxiety and he tries to comfort her.
Chain: "So what is it that you want?" He rubs her double stitches in comfort.
Ring: Stifling a picot she turns to him, "I just want us to try something new that
hasn't been done before. Maybe interlock our elements and create in different colors instead
of boring white thread. I WANT TO HAVE A LITTLE RINGLET!" She throws her picots onto him
as if asking for his blessing in hopes that they could intertwine. Ring is opening up to Chain.
Taken aback, Chain is apprehensive and pulls away.
Chain: "Wait a stitching minute! We have a great relationship and our designs are the
envy of Tatterville. I am not ready to start a new element." "This won't do!"
Ring can't believe what she is hearing. How could this be that he would want to ruin an
opportunity like this, with no thought of her feelings. She twists and knots up and throws a
shuttle at him.
Ring: "How can you be so callus, so arched! I have had enough of your straight laced
life. I need to breath and open up. I am leaving!" She turns around on a thread and stomps her
way over the balls and shuttles and out of the doily. She SPLIT!
Chain cannot believe his double stitches. He did not count on her reaction like this. What is
he to do?! Ring split and for a while he began to have second double stitches as to his actions.
Chain: "I wonder if I could have created a wonderful doily with her even as a split ring"
Chain: "I know she is head strong and it will be hard to knot her back in my life" he
thinks to himself. Shaking his head he sits in wonder, having a few threads to chew on his own.
Just as he was about to twist into a rickrack edging, along comes a new kid in town, Self Closing Mock Ring.
SCMR: "Hey boy, why so down?" she sits down beside him.
Chain: "My life is a shambles. My ring split because I didn't want to try anything new
and she wants little ringlets. I realize I was wrong and I arched too much, but I don't think I
can get her back" Chain sobs in his mess of threads.
Chain: "We were so good for each other and we created wonderful designs"
SCMR: "You don't need her to create those designs that you want! Let me show you a
different way" SCMR snuggles up to chain and intertwines. Chain cannot believe his double
stitches. This is absolutely exciting! What a breakthrough! He never thought that he could
stand alone as an element, yet be caught up in the passion of trying something new and exciting.
As Chain and SCMR were doubling over and stitching in paradise, Chain's mind kept jumping
back to the memory of Ring of how she looked and what she had to offer. There was still
apprehension in all he did, even tho SCMR was there to help.

Next episode: Ring has a change of heart and wants to make up a doily and discovers Chain
intertwined with SCMR. What will she do?! What is the outcome now that she discovers that
Chain has become comfortable with another element?
