Here is an interesting idea to decorate your bobbins, especially for the lacer that is not into handpainting tiny details.
I had purchased these raw wood bobbins at a needlework shop and thought they would be perfect for what I had in mind. I have
this catalog of fabric samples from Hancock Fabrics and I cut the thin catalog sheets with the many colors and patterns and
decoupaged them on the mid section of the bobbins. The patterns lend themselves very well to the bobbins because the print
was small and some motifs show up well in the amount of space on the bobbin. I will paint coordinating colors on the top
and bottom tips of the bobbins for extra measure. Then of course spangle them with coordinating beads. ;)

TIP: You can cut up the patterned swatches of thin paper into very tiny pieces and decoupage them on in a random fashion.
But I wanted to retain the given pattern and some of the motifs, So after measuring and cutting the correct amount to go
around the mid section of the bobbin into a rectangle shape I cut a slit in the center of the paper down to the middle(not all the way
through) so that the paper will curl around the angled slope of the sides. Unless you have a bobbin that is perfectly cylindrical
it is hard to get the exact shape to fit the bobbin. So little slits are required to compensate.

NOTE: This is just an idea to throw at you. A lacemaking friend and I talked about doing the same thing to unfinished bobbins. This in no way is an original idea of mine and not to be taken that way and it is not my intension of copying anyone's work. Just want to share with you. Nuff said ;)
